About LoneWolf Systems

LoneWolf Systems, Inc. was founded in 1991 to enable commercial software developers and systems integrators to create applications with superior user interfaces. Our primary product, the Alpha User Interface Management System (UIMS) was developed with this in mind.

LoneWolf Services

In addition to the Alpha UIMS, LoneWolf provides a variety of services, focusing on user interface issues, including design, development, and integration, as well as human factors and usability analysis. Projects and systems are typically implemented using Alpha; however we can easily make accommodations to meet specific customer requirements.

We also develop and implement home pages for companies who are in the process of staking out territory on the Internet. Our needs for this page were simple, but we're more than happy to tackle your more complicated ideas, and have facilities for graphics and image available.

LoneWolf Development Methods

LoneWolf's software development methodology is based on the proven Rapid Application Development (RAD) approach. RAD has its roots in the Spiral Model, created by Barry Boehm and popularized by others. LoneWolf has improved on the Spiral Model by providing further detail in the implementation of the model, especially in the area of utilizing end-user feedback. Unlike the traditional "waterfall" methodology, RAD provides for an iterative process with heavy user involvement throughout the development life cycle.

In the traditional "waterfall" approach to software development, the development proceeds through a series of rigid, predefined development stages consisting of:

Because of the lengthy development timeline in constructing large systems, discrepancies often arise between what the software developers deliver and what the end user needs. In addition, because of the late integration and test phases, design defects are often not discovered until the development process is nearly complete.

The foundation of the RAD approach is:

Since user input is solicited at every demonstration, the RAD approach provides the development team with constant insight into the user's needs. In addition, since the code is constantly being integrated and tested (in support of user demonstrations), design defects are discovered early in the development timeline. The earlier design defects are discovered, the easier (and cheaper) they are to fix. This approach provides multiple benefits, including early design validation and user interface confirmation, constant requirements verification, substantiated program metrics, and an overall higher quality product that meets user needs.

LoneWolf's customers include National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak), Unidata, Inc., and Carnegie Mellon University. LoneWolf has agreements with SPARC International, 88 Open, and Intel Corporation, and participates in Sun Microsystems' Catalyst and Digital Equipment Corporation's ISV Programs. Through these relationships, the Company is able to validate its products under each consortium's respective "branding" program for use on each member manufacturer's computing hardware. These also serve as further marketing channels for LoneWolf, as validated products are listed in the respective consortium's catalogues.
